Your smile is one of the first things people notice about you. FHC provides comprehensive dental services, for both children and adults, to keep that smile bright. Dental services are provided at our Alcott, Burdick Street, and Centre Street centers (Edison School Based Health Center is a Pediatric Dental site serving Edison, Washington, and El Sol elementary schools). In addition to basic preventive care, we provide urgent care, cleanings, fillings, extractions (tooth removals), and all phases of dentistry in a clean, pleasant and modern environment.
We only employ dentist and hygienists who have graduated from a fully accredited dental school and have received specialized training. We proudly welcome individuals who are uninsured or covered by Medicaid, and invite you to make FHC your dental and comprehensive medical home!

How much will my procedure cost?
Cost is determined by our sliding fee scale which takes into account: individual and family income, insurance/Medicaid eligibility and coverage as well as the amount of care needed in each case. Please click here for more information about our sliding fee scale or to be in contact with a Financial Counselor or Medicaid Specialist.
How soon can I return to work?
Most procedures allow our patients to return to work without interruption. Your dental provider will explain details for follow-up care at the end of each visit.
Is this going to hurt?
Our dentists are caring and gentle. When determined necessary, a local anesthetic is applied to eliminate possible pain and manage discomfort. Sedation is not generally provided or necessary at FHC. Your dentist can discuss all options with you at your visit.
Do I have to get a shot?
Only if the procedure requires a shot – not all procedures require a shot. Routine cleanings and preventive care, for instance, are usually gentle, easy and a great overall way to ensure your health and well-being.
How did I get a cavity? I do not eat candy.
Cavities occur based on a variety of internal and external variables. Your dental provider will work with you to provide the latest tips on nutrition, hygiene and prevention.
Why do I need X-rays?
X-rays help our dentists and hygienists see the whole picture of your dental health. Without them, it is difficult to make a proper diagnosis. We want to provide you with the best standards of care, and x-rays are one important tool we use to do that. Please let your provider know if you may be pregnant or have any medical implants or additional health concerns.
Can I be a patient at FHC?
Yes! We provide services for all people in Kalamazoo County who have no health insurance, are covered by Medicaid or Medicare.
If you have no health insurance and you do not qualify for Medicaid, you may qualify for our Sliding Fee Scale. To apply, please bring proof of income and proof of Kalamazoo County residency.
