Open Access and Same-Day Scheduling now available for Adults and Children!

When you’re sick, you want to see your provider as soon as possible. At Family Health Center, we’re here to help you do that.

Starting April 14, 2014, Family Health Center is expanding open access and same-day scheduling to include both adult and pediatrics for Paterson, Sheridan and Centre locations.

We offer two ways for adult and pediatric patients to see a health care provider on the same day:

Open Access — From 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m., you can see your provider by simply walking in to the clinic. Appointments are first-come, first-served.

Same-Day Scheduling — From 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m., you can schedule an appointment with your provider for that same day, by phone or in person. Appointments are first-come, first-served. Family Health Center continues to offer Immediate Care for urgent medical needs from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday. *Adult patients only. FHC accepts all insurances and offers a sliding fee scale*

Answering your questions about Same-Day Scheduling

Why is Family Health Center changing to open access and same-day scheduling?

Many patients have told us that the way we schedule appointments can leave them waiting as long as two months to see their doctor. That’s too long. In fact, many patients forget to show up. This new approach allows patients to see their doctor that same day. And since people won’t forget to show up, more patients will have the chance to see their doctor or other provider.

How do I get a same-day appointment?

Call or come in to the Paterson clinic on the day you want to see your provider. Appointments are first-come, first-served, so the earlier you call or come in, the better your chances of getting an appointment that day.

How long will I have to wait for my appointment?

The first six appointments of the day for each provider take place between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m., during our “open access” hours. Other appointments can be scheduled throughout the day until 6:00 p.m.

If all the appointment times are taken for today, can I schedule one for a different day?

Appointments on a different day must be scheduled by your doctor. If you can’t get a same-day appointment with your doctor, you might be able to see someone on your doctor’s team. If those slots are also filled, you will need to call or come in the next day.

Will I have to use the same-day scheduling process every time I see my doctor?

Yes. To provide care when you need it, future appointments will be scheduled the day you wish to be seen.

What is open access?

Open access is a walk-in clinic service that allows you to be seen for any type of medical visit between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. You can stop by and sign up for one of 6 appointments that each provider has available. If those slots fill up, you can ask for an appointment later that day. Open access is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

What if I have an urgent medical need?

If you need to see a doctor right away but it isn’t an emergency, the Paterson clinic will continue to hold Immediate Care hours from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, when you can just walk in and see a provider. This is for immediate health issues only, not for routine care, chronic conditions, regular medication refills or paperwork.
