Patient Screening
Family Health Center is carefully monitoring and preparing for COVID-19 (the disease caused by the coronavirus) and taking all necessary steps to ensure the safety of our patients and employees. Below you will find the latest information on our efforts, but we also encourage you to visit Michigan.gov and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for real-time updates. The White House has also issued the President’s new Guidelines for America, 15 Days to Slow the Spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19).
As recommended by the MDHHS, Family Health Center is currently screening all patients and visitors for COVID-19 prior to entering the facilities. After you have been screened and cleared, you will be given access to visit patient care areas. If you are unable to clear our screening process, you will not be granted entry into the building. You will be instructed to return home with details to self-quarantine for 14 days.
While visiting a Family Health Center facility, you will be asked to join us in practicing the following precautions:
What is Coronavirus (COVID-19)?
COVID-19 is a virus strain that has rapidly spread since December 2019. Health experts are concerned because little is known about this new virus and it has the potential to cause severe illness and pneumonia.
How is the virus spread?
Person-to-person spread
- Between people who are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet).
- Through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes.
Can someone spread the virus without being sick?
- People are thought to be most contagious when they are most symptomatic (the sickest).
- Some spread might be possible before people show symptoms; there have been reports of this occurring with this new coronavirus, but this is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads.
Spread from contact with contaminated surfaces or objects
- It may be possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes, but this is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads.
What are the symptoms?
Symptoms that may occur within 2-14 days after exposure:
Emergency warning symptoms that require immediate medical attention:
- Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
- Persistent pressure in the chest
- New confusion or inability to arouse
- Bluish lips or face
If you are experiencing these symptoms, please be seen in an emergency room immediately.
This list is not all-inclusive. Please consult your medical provider for any other symptoms that are severe or concerning.
People with certain conditions are at high risk for severe problems if they become ill with COVID-19. These conditions include:
- Age 65 years or older
- Chronic lung diseases (COPD, emphysema, etc.)
- Pregnancy
- Tobacco use
- Conditions that weaken the immune system (cancer, diabetes, HIV, etc.)
