Family Health Center celebrates Dr. Lisandra Soto Dental Day of Caring

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Dentists across Kalamazoo County volunteered their time and expertise Saturday to provide free dental care to hundreds of people on their annual Day of Caring for uninsured adults.

Family Health Center hosted the all-day event at their office on East Alcott Street in Kalamazoo.

Dentists performed any service someone might need, from a simple cleaning, to fillings and extractions, according to Denise Crawford, president and CEO of Family Health Center.

Since people fell behind on their checkups during the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a huge demand for dental services like this.

“A lot of individuals just did not have access to dental care,” Crawford said. “The cost of dental care is always a challenge and a barrier, and many individuals just do not have dental insurance.”

Dentists came from as far away as Texas to volunteer their skills for Saturday’s event, according to Family Health Center.
